How to quickly defrost a foggy windshield

Have you ever found yourself sitting in your car, waiting for the heat to kick in so your windows can defrost? It's a frustrating and time-consuming part of winter driving that seems unavoidable. While you can't fog-proof your car, there are steps you can take to get out on the road faster.

According to the University of Illinois' Department of Physics, condensation on the inside of a windshield occurs when the temperature inside the car is warmer than the air outside, which is frequently the case in the winter.

You have a couple of choices as far as getting rid of this mist. If you're really in a hurry, you can switch on the air conditioner. This will eventually cause the condensation to dissipate and you can be on your way. Turning on your defroster will definitely help - if you bought a used car and it doesn't work, you should probably head to the garage and have it fixed.

If it's especially cold outside, it may be best to go outside and switch on the heat a few minutes before you plan on leaving. By the time you're ready to go, your car will be warm, toasty and ready to drive.
