As 2011 draws to a close, Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey is completing his tour of every single county in the state. According to the Daily Globe, Iowa is second only to California in terms of agriculture sales. In fact, Northey suspects that there's no reason the increased demand for various crops should decrease anytime soon.

"There’s plenty of reason to say demand for ag products is going to stay strong," he said, speaking to a group of students at Sibley-Ocheyedan High School. He also outlined a few different initiatives that the state will take in 2012, including a focus on ethanol gas.

Iowa's success as an agricultural hub hasn't gone unnoticed. Companies like John Deere and Firestone are investing in the state more aggressively than in the past. Those interested in increasing their agricultural output in the coming year may want to consider upgrading their equipment.
