Long talked about and discussed, it appears that a project to build a new Tappan Zee Bridge in New York is well underway, according to comments made at a recent meeting of the Construction Industry Council of Westchester.

The massive project would create hundreds of jobs in the region and carry a budget of $5.2 billion, making it highly sought after by local construction companies. Construction on the new bridge would continue through 2017.

"We have been planning and talking for too long - it's time to build a new Tappan Zee Bridge," said Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald, according to the Nyack-Piermont Patch.

The current bridge crosses the Hudson River at one of its widest points, connecting the towns of Nyack and Tarrytown. It's become one of the more famous bridges in the country due to its somewhat-odd name and massive size at a length of 16,014 feet.

However, the current bridge is aging quickly and officials are hoping to get construction started soon in order to build a safer version.

Construction companies gearing up for a massive multi-year job like a bridge construction should consider using IronPlanet in order to buy the used equipment that they need. The site's IronClad Assurance plan allows shoppers to bid with confidence, knowing that the items have been fully inspected.
