Real estate agents have positive outlook for 2012

A year-end survey of more than 1,000 RE/MAX real estate agents has found that most expect the housing industry to improve in 2012, thanks to higher prices and increased sales.

Results of the survey were generally optimistic. On average, agents reported a 10 percent increase in sales in 2011, and this year they expect that number to improve by a further 30 percent. Most agents believe that prices will either rise or stay the same in the new year.

"A sense that home prices and sales are improving indicates that the housing market is positioned for a gradual recovery in 2012," said RE/MAX CEO Margaret Kelly. "These agents have the best perspective on industry trends since they average more home sales than agents with any other national firm."

A boost in the housing industry typically means an upswing in residential construction. Those who own construction companies should be ready for the uptick in business in the new year. One way to prepare is through buying or selling used construction equipment online. The auction website IronPlanet allows owners to do both, helping them liquidate old pieces of machinery or buy upgrades for any new jobs they might take on in 2012.
