Construction begins on derelict Manhattan hospital

After years of delays, construction has finally begun on a derelict hospital in the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan, after neighbors complained of numerous issues with the building.

According to DNAinfo, the St. Vincent's Midtown Hospital was closed in 2007 and bought by a developer, who planned to turn it into luxury apartments. Since that time, however, the building appears to have been abandoned. While scaffolding is outside the building, actual progress on construction has been non-existent.

After fielding complaints from neighbors about the stench of standing water in the building, as well as a rat infestation, the city eventually got the developer to commit to a timetable. Construction was supposed to actually begin in September, but has only just recently gotten underway.

"It's better - especially at night, it's better," said Zachary Wellman, who walks by the building on his way to work at night. "It's still kind of gross though."

One way construction company owners can ensure that their own projects get going with no delays is by having all the necessary equipment before work commences. Contractors can look for upcoming sales of used construction equipment at IronPlanet. The auction site allows shoppers to browse a wide selection of equipment and get what they need quickly and easily. In addition, IronClad Assurance inspection reports ensure that the bidder knows exactly what they're getting.
