The construction of a new firehouse in Boonton, NJ, is progressing nicely, according to NorthJersey.com.

The brand new firehouse has been delayed for several years, first due to issues with a neighboring county, and then because the project had to be redesigned after residents complained about the proposed height. Now that the construction has finally gotten underway, things are progressing on schedule, with the shell of the building expected to be completed by next month.

Liam Construction of Vernon, NJ, is the lead contractor on the project, submitting the low bid of $1,091,875 to complete the new structure.

"The contractor is doing a nice job so far. The project is on schedule and there have been no issues," Mayor Robert Collins told the news source.

Eric Graupe of City Erectors Crane Service helped the project out by donating cranes for use free of charge during the steel construction work. Graupe's two sons are volunteer firemen in the department.

Contractors that want to keep costs low in order to secure public projects may want to consider buying used construction equipment online. The auction site IronPlanet offers a wide range of cranes, backhoes and other equipment, often for a more affordable price than buying new.
