As a vital part of the community for the past several decades, the Boys & Girls Club of Machesney Park, Ill., is about to receive a major $1.3 million renovation project. Construction on the new facility began earlier this week after nearly four years of campaigning from community advocates.

"After 42 years, this is long overdue and well-deserved," Chip Stoner, president and chief executive officer of the club, told the Rockford Register Star.

In all, the new Boys & Girls Club will feature two new multipurpose activity rooms, an updated computer lab, meeting spaces and special facilities dedicated to teaching children positive nutrition and lifestyle practices.
