Wilkes University in Pennsylvania has started construction on a $35 million science complex that the school says marks a pivotal point in the school's history.

Wilkes President Tim Gilmour said that he hoped the building would "transform science education at Wilkes and in the region," reports The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader. "It will bring state-of-the-art collaborative learning spaces that will enhance the already excellent science education Wilkes offers and it will increase our ability to attract the best and brightest students," added Gilmour.

Gilmour even got in an excavator himself in order to move the first dirt on the project. He also brought a shovel that was used during the groundbreaking of the original building when it was constructed in 1956.

The new complex will host a number of majors at the school and give the science students a much needed update on their laboratory space.
