Drivers in Tacoma, Wash., are enjoying a new government-sponsored program that is paying big money for their used trucks by offering incentives for those who opt to trade in their old truck for a newer one.

Similar to the "Cash for Clunkers" program in 2009 that offered discounts for used car trade-ins, the Tacoma Truck Scrappage and Replacements for Air in Puget Sound (Tacoma SCRAPS) program is hoping to get 150 pre-1994 trucks off of the road, according to the Tacoma Times-Tribune. Buyers who bring in one of their used trucks built before this year will receive $5,000 if they buy a used truck from between 1994 and 2006 - and $30,000 if the truck was made in 2007 or later.

Whether you're buying or selling a used truck - or both - IronPlanet is your one-stop shop. The auction process allows buyers to find some great bargains on used trucks and other vehicles, all while providing inspection reports backed by IronPlanet's exclusive IronClad Assurance.

Trucks bought through IronPlanet will qualify for the program, as long as the driver proves that their old truck was scrapped and that their new one was built during the years in question. The hitch is that the truck must operate in Tacoma for at least a year after the incentive is collected. However, drivers based out of other areas may find similar programs for their used trucks.
