City officials in Naperville, Ill., recently indicated that the town's construction of single-family homes rebounded sharply in 2011, reports the Naperville Sun.

According to Transportation, Engineering and Development director Marcie Schatz, the city received 98 building permit applications for single-family residences in 2011, far surpassing the 2010 total of 60. The city similarly saw an uptick in commercial permit applications, as numerous development projects in the city continued to move forward.

For 2012, the city believes it will see a new major hotel constructed, improvements done to Metro platforms in the area, and reconstruction on a nearby highway get underway.

The upswing in Naperville is indicative of what's happening all around the country, according to a recent Commerce Department report that indicated new housing projects recently hit a 19-month high. Construction companies can prepare for an increase in business by shopping for used construction equipment on the auction site IronPlanet.

IronPlanet offers a wide range of equipment to choose from, such as backhoe loaders and generators, many of which sell for hundreds or thousands off their original purchase price. It's also great for companies that are hoping to sell off their current equipment, as the site offers a faster time to market with its weekly global auctions.
