Public construction spending increases in November

Spending on public construction in the United States rose in the month of November for the third time in four months, according to a recent Commerce Department report.

Funds for public construction were up 1.7 percent, reports Bloomberg, which beat the average of several analysts polled by the company. Building permits issued by the government also increased by nearly 6 percent, which bodes well for the future.

However, most industry insiders believe that commercial businesses will need to start building to help the industry as a whole, as the government can't fund every project.

"To get any better we need some help from commercial construction," noted John Lundgren, CEO of Stanley Black and Decker, which makes tools for the construction industry. Overall, he said, "it’s not going to get any worse from a macro perspective."

If you've got a big job coming up or are bidding for a contract, it's important to keep costs as low as possible.
