Interstate 287 in New York could be delayed further

The construction of Interstate 287 in New York has been delayed into 2013, reports LoHud.com.

The massive project hit a snag when a newspaper investigation found significant budget overruns, delays and inefficiencies. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said in November that he was making sweeping reforms to the project, with the goal to have it completed by the end of 2012.

However, now the project will likely be delayed until August 2013, according to the news source. Cuomo's office says the road will be opened by the end of 2012, and the additional work is non-essential.

"I-287 will be substantially complete and fully open to traffic by the end of this year at a reduced cost," spokesman Matthew Wing told the news source. "The additional time after reopening is for superficial work that has no relationship to reopening the road, the lowering of the cost and the expedited schedule."

Budget overruns can be a challenge for any construction company, which is why it's important to keep operating costs low. One of the bigger expenses is the cost of buying construction equipment. With online auctions through IronPlanet, buyers have a wide selection of equipment on which to bid. IronPlanet also provides IronClad Assurance inspection reports with their equipment, so bidders know exactly what they're getting.
