Growth expected for construction jobs in 2012

The Associated General Contractors of America (AGCA) reports that construction jobs will likely see a small recovery throughout 2012, as a recent survey has indicated that fewer companies plan to cut jobs this year compared to last.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, only 9 percent of survey respondents plan to fire people this year, while 32 percent believe they will be hiring. That's much better than last year, when 37 percent of companies laid off workers.

"There are some promising signs, especially with employment," Stephen Sandherr, CEO of the association, told the news source. "But we don’t expect a broad-based recovery until 2013."

The contractor group also reported that 2012 will likely be a good year for those involved in the construction of major complexes like colleges and hospitals. Many of these projects, which were put on hold during the economic downturn, are now back on track.

As these projects get going again in 2012, IronPlanet is there to source the equipment contractors need. Equipment is located across the US and around the world. Featuring a wide variety of construction equipment – from backhoes to crawler tractors, wheel loaders to trucks, IronPlanet has what is needed for the job.
