President Obama mentioned the construction industry during his State of the Union address last night, and the remarks appeared to indicate more spending on infrastructure in the future.

Obama spoke about how America built the Hoover Dam and Golden Gate Bridge during the Great Depression, and expressed hope that Congress would approve more infrastructure spending in order to help revitalize the construction industry.

"In the next few weeks, I will sign an executive order clearing away the red tape that slows down too many construction projects. But you need to fund these projects," said the president, speaking directly to members of Congress. "Take the money we’re no longer spending at war, use half of it to pay down our debt, and use the rest to do some nation-building right here at home. There's never been a better time to build, especially since the construction industry was one of the hardest hit when the housing bubble burst."

One place contractors do not have to worry about red tape is IronPlanet. The online auction site makes buying and selling easy, allowing workers to focus more on the projects at hand and reap the savings. Used equipment allows owners to save money over buying new, while IronPlanet's IronClad Assurance allows bidders to view a full inspection report before they buy.
