Construction has begun on a brand-new hotel in Syracuse's Armory Square area, creating a number of construction jobs in the community.

CNYCentral.com reports that the new project will add 200 construction jobs as it's being built. The $30 million hotel will be a combination Marriott Courtyard and Residence Inn. The Courtyard is a traditional Marriott property, while the Residence Inn is designed for people staying over extended periods. This will be the first hotel to combine both in the Northeast.

The project was developed by the Inns at Armory Square. Construction has been talked about for several years but plans briefly fell through when financing was not available during the economic downturn.

"We are very excited about starting construction of the new Marriott hotel in downtown Syracuse. We believe the project will continue to build on the success of the Armory Square area as well as be a pivotal project to support the Near West Side Initiative efforts and the Connective Corridor," Dick Sykes, managing member of the Inns at Armory Square, told the news source.

Construction companies can add to their business by taking on large jobs such as hotels. Buying used construction equipment online through IronPlanet can help contractors keep their costs down and remain competitive.
