Today marks National Agriculture Day, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture is celebrating by holding a number of events in Washington, D.C. that seek to raise awareness of how important farmers are to this country.

This year's theme is "American Agriculture: Abundant. Affordable. AMAZING," and organizers hope to spread that message to government officials, students and citizens who may not know all that much about the critical role agriculture plays.

The nation's capital isn't the only place where National Agriculture Day is being recognized. Many states across the country are holding their own events in order to mark the occasion, and are urging their citizens to recognize their farmers by buying locally-grown products.

One aspect of modern farming that many may not realize is important is the agricultural equipment. For many farmers, their success depends on things like tractors, combine harvesters and dump trailers. Buying used agricultural equipment through IronPlanet can help these farmers save money over buying new. What's more, the site's IronClad Assurance allows them to view full inspection reports beforehand, ensuring that they know exactly what they're getting.
