Excavators are essential machines for Keith McTaggart, owner of McTaggart Equipment Co. Ltd. in Winnipeg. Established in 1975, the company currently utilizes a fleet of five excavators to complete road construction projects throughout the area.
In late 2009, McTaggart was searching for an additional excavator for his business. McTaggart discovered IronPlanet and recognized that the online marketplace for used heavy equipment provided convenience, efficiency and cost savings.

The rubber-tired excavator was located in Texas so McTaggart arranged for a transportation partner to pick up the machine and move it to Winnipeg. The pictures in the inspection report showed the machine running, but once McTaggart’s transportation partner arrived to pick up the equipment, it wouldn’t start properly.
McTaggart had the equipment transported to his site and then contacted IronPlanet and notified them of the issue. He was able to reference the inspection report to prove that the equipment was described and pictured in good working condition. Two days later, an IronPlanet inspector arrived at his site to look at the equipment.
“IronPlanet stood behind the IronClad Assurance and offered to reimburse me the total cost of fixing the equipment,” said McTaggart. “The process was very easy and IronPlanet’s inspector was very knowledgeable and understanding.”
McTaggart had the machine repaired and still uses it to this day, and he’s always browsing online to find his next purchase.
