Transport truck owners based in California will need to meet the California Air Resource Board’s (CARB) new Truck and Bus Regulation beginning in 2020. Vehicles that do not meet these new emissions requirements – trucks produced before 2010 – will have registration blocked by the state’s DMV.
According to CARB, the purpose of the regulation is to “reduce emissions of diesel particulate matter, oxides of nitrogen and other criteria pollutants from in-use diesel-fueled vehicles.” CARB adds that older vehicles must be either replaced with a 2011 or newer vehicle or repowered with a 2010 or newer engine.
