DUBLIN, Ireland--
IronPlanet, the leading online marketplace for buying and selling used heavy equipment and trucks, is providing its customers with an exclusive opportunity to bid on surplus military machines from the United States Defence Logistics Agency (DLA).
The equipment, including trucks, trailers, construction equipment and more is located at a U.S. military base in Germany and will be available to purchase through IronPlanet.com on Wednesday, July 29th, 2015. Register today as a VIP for the ability to review the equipment in advance of the auction and be fully prepared to bid on the best machines at the best prices.
IronPlanet’s auction partnership with the DLA has been running in the U.S. since November 2014 with increasingly positive results. Since that inaugural online auction, global demand for the items has grown considerably. For example, in December 2014, at one single auction, 111,000 registered users from across the world bid on the first High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), or Humvees, made available to the public by the U.S. Department of Defence.
In a recent April 2015 auction, 8,000 total bids were placed on 351 items. This included the sales of items such as a Hyster Pneumatic Forklift for $30,100, and an AM General HMMWV for $22,500.
Randy Berry, senior vice president, operations and services for IronPlanet, said, “The July 29th auction will be the first IronPlanet has held in Europe selling DLA items and presents buyers with a truly unique opportunity to bid on expertly maintained U.S. military equipment. We know we have enthusiasm in the European market for the machines, and are confident of replicating the successes from the United States both at this auction and in the future.”
Over the course of the next year, IronPlanet Europe plans to make more equipment available from European U.S. military bases. In the U.S., the auctions have been hosted through GovPlanet an IronPlanet marketplace that was launched in November 2014 specifically to sell federal, state and municipal fleet and equipment assets. The new European auctions will be held directly through IronPlanet.com and hosted as part of the monthly auction platform.
For the DLA, selling surplus rolling stock quickly and efficiently through a trusted partner has become an increasingly profitable strategy. For buyers it is a chance to buy military equipment that is rarely available to the public in such volume. Furthermore, they can have total faith in its quality due to both the reputation of the seller and because of IronPlanet’s IronClad Assurance® scheme – an inspection process guaranteeing that the machines are in the exact condition advertised.
