IronPlanet Celebrates 14 Years of Online Auctions

IronPlanet will celebrate the 14th anniversary of its first auction this week (download the infographic for a comparison of auctions over the past 14 years).

IronPlanet held its first online auction March 23, 2000 which consisted of one seller, 32 bidders and 22 items within the construction industry. This year, IronPlanet held a four-day online auction that featured 406 sellers, 2,996 unique bidders from 78 countries and 1,795 items sold.

IronPlanet Surpasses 1 Million Registered Users

IronPlanet Sees Strong Demand in Early 2014

IronPlanet® kicked off 2014 strong, selling $26.8 million in used heavy equipment and trucks during a four-day global auction event held Jan. 28-31.

The four-day auction included equipment listed in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. In total, 1,795 items were sold to over 1,000 buyers. Strong demand in the market was demonstrated by online bids placed from 78 different countries as well as from every U.S. state and all 10 Canadian provinces.

IronPlanet Forms Strategic Alliance with Mascus

IronPlanet®, a leading online marketplace for used heavy equipment, announced today a strategic alliance including a small minority investment with Mascus, an online marketplace for construction equipment, transportation vehicles and trucks and agricultural, forestry, material handling, equipment, headquartered in the Netherlands.

The agreement includes the seamless integration of the two sites with new remarketing services to aid the ease, speed and availability of equipment. Advertisers on Mascus will now be able to quickly and efficiently push items listed on Mascus to IronPlanet for auction, further enhancing equipment disposition and speed to liquidity. In addition, buyers on IronPlanet will have greater access to the entire inventory of listings on Mascus. Sellers of used heavy equipment are increasingly moving from traditional publications and land-based auctions to the global reach and instant access of online marketplaces like IronPlanet and Mascus. Likewise, buyers of equipment turn to the Internet to find the equipment they need at the price they are willing to pay within the quick timeframe they desire. The alliance will provide the transparency of availability, pricing and location not available in printed publications and traditional auctions.
